Resting in the quiet waters of the South China Sea, the Con Dao archipelago remains an unknown gem, 180km off the coast of South East Vietnam. Swathes of white sand form breeding grounds for turtles and visiting dugong herds, while inland teems with bird life and the chatter of monkeys and squirrels. Six Senses has chosen Con Son Island as the location of its next Hideaway resort for its unspoilt beauty and ecological opportunities. The island covers an area of 70km² with 5000 inhabitants. Pristine Dat Doc beach lies 8km from Con Son Airport, in a National Park encompassing both marine and terrestrial resources. The architecture of the villas carried the same philosophy as all the buildings of the resort: achieve both a unique built environment and enhance the amazing natural setting. Each villa is designed carefully as a timber frame structure, located sensitively within the natural slope of the dunes for the best views to the sea and the best integration of the built elements into the site. The butterfly roofs give lightness to the overall, it opens the front of the buildings towards the sea and creates a shaded area at the front with its pools and sundecks. The major idea of the design is to reduce as much as possible the air-conditioned space and to privilege natural ventilation, to live with the nature but in a luxurious way.
